Professional Experience

Solange Costa has almost 30 years of experience in the mining area, having worked in large companies, providing assistance in due diligences, contracts, litigation (administrative and judicial), in addition to advisory and institutional relations with the main stakeholders of the sector for the mining, environmental and land areas.

Before joining Mello Torres, Solange led the mining team at Vale S.A. (largest mining company in Brazil and one of the largest in the world), focusing on transactions involving mining contracts, litigation and dam safety. The lawyer acted strongly in the crises of the Mariana and Brumadinho dams.

In her resume, Solange also has work in other large companies such as AngloGold Ashanti and Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN). At the Brazilian Institute of Mining (IBRAM), she was a member of the Board and coordinator of the Legal Committee.

Education

Solange holds a degree in Law, a postgraduate degree in Civil Law and an MBA in Management and Business Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-MG) and the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). At the Brazilian Minas Gerais Bar Association (OAB-MG), he is a member of the Mining Law Commission.

Recognitions

Throughout her career, she received the Latin American Counsel Award 2016 – Regulatory Law category. She was also nominated for the 2016 Global Counsel Awards in the same category, in addition to appearing on the GC Powerlist Brazil 2016 and 2022, individually and with her team, in 2019. In 2020, she was among the 50 most admired legal executives in Brazil by the Análise Advocacia.
